All about Broadband
What is Broadband?
"Broadband is an always-on gateway to a New World of Internet based services delivered at relatively faster speed to households & businesses. Broadband is a huge digital pipeline that links consumer to the Internet's deepening pool of news, information, entertainment and data. TRAI has defined Broadband as "an always-on data connection with minimum speeds of 256Kbps".
What is Internet over Cable and how does it work?
It's an always-on Internet service, where high speed Internet is delivered over special cables laid for this purpose, This technology uses Fiber and Coaxial cables to deliver Internet, that have a higher capacity and are more weather resistant in comparison to Telephone cables that are designed to carry voice only. Cable Internet uses a Cable Modem to communicate between your computer and the Internet. It works in very similar manner as the modem used for dial up connection, but converting your data requirements into a high speed form compatible with the for the cable infrastructure. A cable modem has a capacity to transmit data at upto 4 Mbps, which is many times higher than a typical 56 kbps dialup modem.
What is a Cable Modem?
Cable Internet uses a Cable Modem to communicate between your computer and the Internet. It interfaces between the higher speed co axial cable and your PC. It works in very similar manner as the modem used for dial up connection, but converting your data requirements into a high speed form compatible with the for the cable infrastructure. A cable modem has a capacity to transmit data at upto 4 Mbps, which is many times higher than a typical 56 kbps dialup modem.
Will my speed be affected, if there are too many YOU Broadband subscribers on line at the same time?
Having many subscribers on-line at the same time, will not affect your speed. But if the site you are accessing is overloaded, then there could be a reduction in speed.
Do I pay for Telephone call charges while using YOU Broadband Internet services?
No, you don't. With YOU Broadband's Internet services you do not require a telephone line to connect to the net. Hence no hefty telephone bills.
Do I need a modem?
Ordinary dial-up modems are not right for Cable Internet. You need a special cable modem that would be connected to your computer. At YOU Broadband, we will supply the cable modem to you at a cost.
Are there any specific requirements for my PC to be Broadband enabled?
For the Experience, we recommend the following configuration for your computer:
Your computer should be operating on Windows 95, 98, 2000 or NT / XP.
Your computer should have Ethernet card.
You need an available hard disk space of 20MB.
The RAM should be at least 32 MB.
